Now dentists can determine their fees themselves starting from this year, prices rose by ten percent on average. This is the outcome of a survey among 200 dentists done by health insurer VGZ, writes the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. Some dentists have even boosted their price by thirty percent. "We are deeply concerned and find it unacceptable," said a spokesman for the insurer. There are 7000 dentists in the Netherlands. It is unclear whether all dentists have increased their rates so sharply. "But if this has happened, will there be a cost increase in the dental care of 200 million euros." Reporting action The Dutch Patient and Consumer Federation is also concerned about the outcome. The association director Wilna Wind says in the newspaper that the reporting action is initiated to identify the experiences with the introduction of free pricing in oral care. Health Minister Edith Schippers (VVD) intends to improve the quality, affordability and accessibility of dental care by ending price controls. Nu de tandartsen hun tarieven vanaf dit jaar zelf mogen vaststellen, stijgen de prijzen gemiddeld met tien procent. Dit blijkt uit een onderzoek van zorgverzekeraar VGZ onder 200 tandartsen, zo schrijft de Telegraaf. Sommige tandartsen hebben hun prijs zelfs opgeschroefd met dertig procent. "We maken ons ernstig zorgen en vinden het onacceptabel", zegt een woordvoerder van de verzekeraar. Er zijn 7000 tandartsen in Nederland. Het is onduidelijk of alle praktijken hun tarieven zo fors omhoog gooien. "Maar als dat wel zo is, zal er sprake zijn van een kostenstijging in de tandartszorg van 200 miljoen euro.” Meldactie De Nederlandse Patiënten en Consumenten Federatie is ook bezorgd over de uitkomsten. In de krant zegt directeur Wilna Wind dat de vereniging een meldactie is gestart om te inventariseren wat de ervaringen zijn met de invoering van de vrije prijzen in de mondzorg. Minister van Volksgezondheid Edith Schippers (VVD) wil door het vrijgeven van de tarieven de kwaliteit, betaalbaarheid en toegankelijkheid van de tandartszorg verbeteren. |
