Here are five questions aboutBaker's book Family Secrets, following the publication of the memoirs of former President George W. Bush, Tuesday, entitled Decision Points. Why did you write a book about the Bush family? "I wanted to figure out what the motives are of the Bush family which has been so controversial and devastating to the public interest. During the process I discovered thousands of new facts, showing that not the president but a powerful elite controls the United States. The family Bush is part of this network with bankers, intelligence agencies, oil companies and military leaders. This elite created presidencies. And still does." Can you name an example? "The elite wanted Bush junior to be the new president, so he was put like a doll in a scenery. A ranch was purchased for him in order to portray him as a believer and a cowboy. In this way he as a "real American" was definitely going to win from the Democratic candidates Al Gore and later John Kerry. Meanwhile the ranch has been sold already and George W. Bush lives in Dallas, just like for his presidency." George W. Bush says in his book that he still stands behind his decision to invade Iraq in 2003 because of the presence of weapons of mass destruction, which turned out not to be there. How do you see this? "The real reasons have to do with power and money, both public interests and private interests. Thus, Bush has once remarked in private that a presidency can only have some standing with a successful war! Furthermore both Iraq and Afghanistan have many minerals. The same applies to Netherlands, which used to exploit colonies and now the business sector has taken over this role. In this way power works." Why did major news organizations like CNN not report this? "Mainstream media are playing the daily news without depth research into the big picture. It is so that everything we know is a conventional story until someone new conventional materials make the story changes. I started a forensic investigation consisting of step by step digging and research. This is common in archeology and science, so why not in history and journalism." Does your book not verge to a conspiracy theory? "This term is used by people who do not want certain information and explanations to turn up, despite the facts." Waarom schreef u een boek over de familie Bush? "Ik wilde uitzoeken wat de beweegredenen zijn van de familie Bush, die zo controversieel en verwoestend is geweest voor het algemeen belang. Daarbij stuitte ik op duizenden nieuwe feiten, waaruit blijkt dat niet de president maar een machtige elite de Verenigde Staten bestuurt. De familie Bush is deel van dit netwerk van onder meer bankiers, inlichtingendiensten, olieconcerns en militaire kopstukken. Deze elite creëerde presidentschappen. En nog steeds." Noemt u eens een voorbeeld? "De elite wilde Bush junior als nieuwe president, dus werd hij als een pop in een decor geplaatst. Hij werd op een aangekochte ranch als gelovige cowboy neergezet. Zo moest hij als 'echte Amerikaan' zeker gaan winnen van de Democratische kandidaten Al Gore en later John Kerry. Inmiddels is de ranch al lang en breed verkocht en woont Bush gewoon weer in Dallas, zoals voor zijn presidentschap." George W. Bush zegt in zijn boek dat hij nog steeds achter zijn beslissing staat om Irak in 2003 binnen te vallen vanwege de aanwezigheid van massavernietigingswapens, die er niet bleken te zijn. Hoe ziet u dit? "De echte redenen hebben te maken met macht en geld, zowel uit publiek belang als privébelang. Zo heeft Bush zich privé eens laten ontvallen dat een presidentschap pas wat voorstelt met een succesvolle oorlog! Verder heeft zowel Irak als Afghanistan veel delfstoffen. Hetzelfde geldt voor Nederland, dat vroeger al kolonies leeghaalde en dat nu doet via het bedrijfsleven. Zo werkt macht." Waarom meldden grote nieuwsorganisaties als CNN dit niet? "Mainstream media hier verslaan het dagelijkse nieuws en doen geen diepgravend onderzoek naar het grote geheel. Het is zo dat alles wat we weten een conventioneel verhaal is totdat iemand nieuw conventioneel materiaal vindt waardoor het verhaal verandert. Ik ben een zogezegd forensisch onderzoek gestart en stapje voor stapje gaan graven en onderzoeken. Dit is gebruikelijk in de archeologie en wetenschap, dus waarom niet in de geschiedenis en journalistiek." Neigt uw boek niet naar een complottheorie? "Deze term wordt vooral gebruikt door mensen die niet willen dat bepaalde informatie en uitleg boven water komt, ondanks de feiten." |
