This is because a large proportion of people does not report crimes to law enforcement agencies. This is reported by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) last Monday. Victims of crime report only one third of the crimes to the police. In more than one quarter of the cases people actually lodge a complaint according to the, CBS. The main reason for victims not to report is that "it does not help". Insurance Reasons to lodge a complaint are that the police "should know" or because of the insurance. Especially violent crimes and sexual offenses and threats are not reported to the police. Only 3 percent of sexual offenses lead to a complaint while 11 percent of threats are repored. Many victims find the incident not important enough, apparently. In case of abuse the police is called in quite often. Also, property crime such as burglary, theft of and from the car and pocketing are reported more often. In two thirds of the cases people go to the police. The main reason here are the insurance requirements or justice considerations because the offender must be caught. Bike theft is less frequently reported. Dat komt doordat burgers een groot deel van de delicten niet melden bij opsporingsinstanties. Dat meldt het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) maandag. Slachtoffers van criminaliteit melden slechts een derde van de delicten bij de politie. In ruim een kwart van de gevallen doen mensen ook daadwerkelijk aangifte, aldus het CBS. De belangrijkste reden van slachtoffers om geen aangifte te doen is dat 'het toch niets helpt'. Verzekering Redenen om juist wel tot aangifte over te gaan zijn dat de politie dit ‘moet weten’ en vanwege de verzekering. Vooral bij geweldsdelicten als bedreigingen en seksuele delicten wordt de politie erbuiten gehouden. Slechts 3 procent van de seksuele delicten leidt tot aangifte; bij bedreigingen is dit 11 procent. Veel slachtoffers vinden het voorval niet belangrijk genoeg, zo blijkt. Bij mishandeling wordt wel vaak de politie ingeschakeld. Ook vermogensdelicten zoals inbraak, diefstal van en uit de auto en zakkenrollerij worden meer gemeld. In twee van de drie gevallen stappen mensen naar de politie. De voornaamste reden is hierbij de verzekering of vanwege gerechtigheid: de dader moet worden gepakt. Bij fietsdiefstal wordt minder vaak aangifte gedaan. |
